Pusan
is... |
Pusan where FWR is working is the second largest
city in Korea, 450 Kilometers away from Seoul,
the capital. An estimated 20,000 migrant workers
among its population of 4 million are working
in Pusan. Because Pusan is one of the major
port cities in the world - the quantity of
containers being transported to and from the
city is ranked fifth in the world - it also
has a lot of problems at the amusement sites
for foreigners such as women trafficking and
prostitution. Because this area, Pusan and
South Kyuongsang Province, has newly developed
planned industrial complexes, 70 percent of
migrant workers here are documented 'industrial
trainees' who entered Korea officially to
work at small and medium-sized companies,
while 70 percent of the total migrants in
Korea are undocumented.
